•A new luminescent 3D Cd(II) MOF (1) was designed and synthesized.•The luminescent property of 1 displays selectivity and sensitivity to nitrobenzene.•The MOF is a potential sensor for nitroaromatic compounds.A novel metal-organic framework (MOF) [Cd3(L)2(μ2-H2O)2]·(H2O)3 (1) (H3L=5-(4-carboxy-benzylamino)-isophthalic acid), has been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal condition. Single crystal structure analysis reveals that 1 displays a three-dimensional (3D) framework, which represents a rarely obtained (4, 8)-connected topology. The compound exhibits strong fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature. Interestingly, the fluorescence of 1 dispersed in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) can be selectively and sensitively quenched by nitroaromatic compounds (NACs), which shows that the complex could be a potential fluorescent sensor for detection of these compounds.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide

Two novel metal-organic frameworks, [Cd(Bna)(DMF)2(H2O)2]n · nDMF (I) (Bna = 2,2′-dihydroxy-l,l′-dinaphthyl-3,3′-dicarboxylate) and [Cd(Bna)(Bipy)(DMF)2]n (II) (Bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been synthesized under mild conditions and structurally characterized. Crystal structural analyses reveal that complex I adots a 1D spiral structure with DMF guest molecules in the spiral by hydrogen bondings. Complex II is constructed by -Cd-Bna-Cd- zigzag chains, which are further connected by Bipy into a 2D sheet. X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetric analyses for I and II show that they are highly themally stable in the solid state.

A new coordination polymer, [Zn(BDOA)(Py)2(H2O)]n (I) (BDOA = benzene-1,4-dioxylacetate, Py = pyridine), has been prepared via self-assembly of benzene-1,4-dioxylacetate with zinc nitrate under mild conditions and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction single-crystal analysis. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with a = 15.5751(9), b = 6.0898(4), c = 21.7133(13) Å, V = 1991.9(2) Å3, β = 104.719(1)°, Z = 4. The zinc atoms are bridged by BDOA ligand, forming a one-dimensional chain along the z axis. A two-dimensional layer structure is formed by the intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The thermal decomposition profile of the complex is reported as well.
